Please read the following requirements for adoption before filling out the adoption application:
South Carolina Pit Bull hopes to make Adoption a wonderful experience!
Our goal is to place our Pits in forever homes, as a part of the family. With that goal in mind, we have developed the following requirements:
Minimum requirements
-
Most importantly, we require that your new dog be regarded as a member of your family and receive the love and attention all dogs crave and require to be happy, healthy pets.
-
The dog must live inside with the family to accomplish the very first requirement. No exceptions. We absolutely do not adopt our dogs into homes that will leave them outdoors on a regular basis.
-
Adopters must be at least 21 years of age.
-
Referral from veterinarian of current or previous pets, if applicable.
-
Referral from a non-family member that is familiar with current or previous pet(s).
-
Homeowners must be aware of breed discrimination within home owner insurance policies and check with their insurance company to be certain the breed they are adopting will not jeopardize their coverage. Homeowners must also be aware of any restrictions or covenants within their homeowner’s associations and neighborhood associations, which may restrict breeds.
-
Renters must be aware of any breed restrictions imposed by their apartment community and/or landlord(s). Renters also must be willing to pay any pet deposits required by their landlord(s).
-
Ability to care for the dog financially.
-
Potential adopters must provide regular veterinary care, including vaccinations and flea and tick preventatives.
-
All family members must agree to add a new dog to the household and be present at the time of the interview, home visit and introduction of the new dog to the home.
If you do not meet these minimum requirements, please wait until your circumstances change before applying to adopt.
South Carolina Pit Bull Rescue handles each adoption application individually, on a case-by-case basis. We consider each adoption to be that dog's home for the remainder of its life. We work to find the right environment for the dog and the right dog for the adopter's environment. The adoption process takes approximately 3 days - 2 weeks. .
At the time of adoption, all Adopters must sign an Adoption Agreement contract and provide the adoption fee. Our adoption fees are a standard $150 for adults and $250 for puppies. Our adoption fees reimburse the rescue for the vet expenses incurred to properly care for our Pitties. Puppies are a bit higher because they require more vaccinations, and a lot more training, making their care more expensive.
Post Adoption: South Carolina Pit Bull rescue is available for questions, problems, or comments for as long as the Adoptive Family needs. South Carolina Pit Bull Rescue reserves the right to do follow up visits at any time. For the first two to three weeks after adoption, the dog may have potty accidents, be depressed, withdrawn, stressed or calmer than "normal." Re-homing is very stressful for all dogs, each handle stress in their own way. Please report any problems ASAP.
The Adoption Process
Step 1: Fill out the Adoption Application. The more information you include, the faster the rescue will be able to process your application. Please be as thorough as possible and remember - references are REQUIRED.
Step 2: We schedule your home visit! We will schedule a home visit with you and your family once we finish processing your application, which includes checking for BSL in your area, checking for any Pit Bull restrictions with your apartment complex and/or neighborhood, and calling your references. All of the volunteers for the rescue work fulltime day jobs. For that reason, we typically schedule home visits after working hours during the week, or on the weekends. We like to visit your home when it is still light outside so that we can see your yard. Don't worry, it's not scary! Our biggest reason for visiting your home is to meet you and your pets in their home environment.
Estimated Time for completion: 3 days - 3 weeks;
The time it takes depends on how complete your application is, your availability, the availability of your references, and whether the dog is 100% ready for adoption. If you fill out the application to the best of your ability and provide good, reachable references, we can have you approved in a matter of a few days.
